Mars 24”x24” / 61x61 cm - mat for wargames
Compatible with
Rust-red dust, craters from pinpricks to wide basins, dark ground broken into ridges - and no cover except whatever your crew carried down from orbit. Mars puts that ground on rubber two feet square (61 x 61 cm): the board for a 75-point Space Weirdos game, the 2' x 2' option in Five Parsecs from Home and a table the Stargrave rulebook allows. Order it double-sided and the back is green grass.
Key features of the Mars 24" x 24" mat
- Craters seen from orbit - rust-orange and ochre ground with darker grey-blue regions, impact craters from pinpricks to a broad, shallow basin, raised and pitted plateaus and fine cracks, all shaded as if lit from one side.
- One board, three games - a 75-point game of Space Weirdos needs a board exactly this size, Five Parsecs from Home sets some battles at 2' x 2' and others at 3' x 3', and Stargrave's rulebook covers a board of 60 x 60 cm, suggesting the crews deploy in the corners.
- Grass for a second world - the double-sided version swaps the red planet for a green, grassy one when you turn it over; the single-sided mat stays put on its anti-slip rubber back.
- Rubber underneath, print on top - the artwork is printed on a polyester top layer, with natural rubber 2 mm thick underneath and edges cut by laser; a damp cloth takes dust and spills off, and the mat rolls or folds away.

Where the Mars 24" x 24" mat fits
Space Weirdos expeditions - Casey Garske fitted the core rules of this skirmish heartbreaker into a 16-page zine: characters are rated with dice from d4 to d12, every polyhedral but the d20, and command points buy overwatch, an extra move or a better roll. It works with almost any infantry figures, so pulp-era spacemen fit in as well as modern sci-fi troopers.
A stop on the Five Parsecs route - crew members can be human, alien or robot, the campaign has its own tables for starship travel, trade and towns, and the rules bring environmental hazards into play; a dusty red world makes an obvious port of call.
Low oxygen in Stargrave - a filter mask, often part of a helmet, carries a little breathable oxygen, so gas and low oxygen never touch its wearer - for the price of one equipment slot - and robots are unaffected by either. Agree before deployment whether this planet counts as low oxygen.
What makes the Mars 24" x 24" mat different
Red Desert shows cracked orange earth close up, and Rocky Desert pale, cracked sand with scattered stones; Mars pulls back to the view from orbit - craters, dark regions and raised plateaus - so the scale feels planetary rather than a patch of desert. For a hotter world there is Lava Fields: black stone with molten cracks glowing through it. Measured by area, this is the smallest Mars mat we make; the largest is 72" x 48".
Frequently asked questions
Do the craters count as cover?
Not on their own - they are printed flat. The Stargrave rulebook advises that sightlines should rarely run further than 12" or 24", so add rocks, wrecks or prefab domes on top; the craters and plateaus suggest where to put them.
What if my games outgrow 2' x 2'?
Space Weirdos at 125 points, a standard Stargrave game and the bigger Five Parsecs fights all take 3' x 3', which is what the Mars 36" x 36" is for.
What do I get on the reverse?
Green grass, when you order the double-sided mat - a second, greener world for the next battle. Without it, the back is bare anti-slip rubber.
FAQ
How long does it take to make and send my order?
Products from our regular offer are usually made and handed to the carrier within up to 10 business days of your order. If your order needs more time, we let you know by email. Orders paid by bank transfer go into production once the payment reaches us.
How long does delivery take?
Courier shipments within Europe arrive within 3 to 5 business days of dispatch. Parcel post can take up to 2 weeks within the European Union and more than a month outside it. Every order gets a tracking link, so you can follow the parcel all the way to your table.
How much does shipping cost?
Free shipping from 200 EUR within the EU and from 400 USD outside the EU. Below these thresholds, delivery costs depend on the destination and parcel weight. The exact price is shown at checkout.
Do you ship outside Europe?
Yes. Besides Europe, we ship by courier to the United States, Canada and Asia. Courier prices outside Europe depend on the destination and the weight of the parcel and are shown in the cart before you pay.
What payment methods can I use?
You can pay online through Stripe or PayPal, which covers credit cards and many popular banking systems, or by bank transfer. Unpaid bank transfer orders are cancelled five business days after they are placed. All prices in the store are gross prices in euro.
Will I get an invoice?
Yes. On request we issue a receipt or a VAT invoice for your order. It goes into the parcel or arrives by email as a PDF file, sent to the address you gave when ordering.
Will the product look exactly like the photos?
Very close, but not always identical. Phones and monitors show colours in RGB, and each screen renders them a little differently depending on brightness and settings. We print in CMYK with our own calibration and match the print to the design as closely as possible.
Is the size exactly as listed?
Almost. Our materials are cut at high temperatures, so the final dimensions of a mat can differ by up to +/- 5 mm from the listed size. On a gaming table this difference has no effect on play, deployment zones or card layouts.
Can I return this product if it is not right for my table?
Yes. You can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason, by sending us the return form. You cover the cost of sending the product back, and we refund your payment, including the original standard delivery cost. Custom products made to your own design cannot be returned this way.
What if my order arrives damaged or I get the wrong product?
File a complaint with your order number, a short description and photos of the problem. You can choose a refund of the price plus delivery or an exchange for a new or correct product, and we cover the shipping both ways. We respond to every complaint within 14 days.
Can I cancel my order before it arrives?
Yes. You can withdraw from the order at any point until you receive it by sending us a statement, for example the return form. This does not shorten your 14-day right to return the product after delivery.
