2D Grimdark Terrains

Grimdark terrain is usually a scratch-build project: foam ruins, charred twigs, a weekend of paint. This set skips the workshop. Three printed rubber pieces of scorched, smouldering ground drop onto any battle mat and read as a burning treeline from across the table.

The Burning Forest set
Three scorched-forest pieces in 16.5x18, 17.5x17.5 and 17x13 cm, with irregular laser-cut outlines so the burn looks natural rather than stamped. Per its product page the set is compatible with Warmachine & Hordes, and a burning wood reads as hazardous or blocking ground in any dark fantasy or sci-fi system that lets terrain carry the mood.

Built to dress a bigger scene
A single burning treeline is an accent. Combine it with the rest of our 2D range and it becomes a setting: craters from the post-apo collection for ground that was shelled before it burned, a lava or winter river cutting the table, a ruined city tile on the flank. Everything shares the same flat rubber build, so the whole scene rolls up together.

Why flat rubber

  • 2 mm natural rubber backing: each piece grips the mat and stays where the fire started.
  • Printed polyester top: the smoulder and ash stay sharp game after game.
  • Laser-cut edges: natural outlines, no fraying.
  • Rolls or folds flat: it travels with the mat to a club night or tournament instead of needing its own crate.

Imagine the table: a dark mat, three burning woods across the centre line, and both warbands choosing between the long way around and the short way through the fire. The club regulars who paint terrain for weeks will still ask where the forest came from, and the honest answer is that it rolled out of the same bag as the mat.

Our terrain is compatible with Warmachine & Hordes but is not an official Privateer Press product. Browse the grimdark terrain.
