Mats Storage

A print lasts exactly as long as it is treated well, and the single biggest threat to a rubber mat is not use at the table, it is bad storage between sessions. A crease that sets in during a month in a drawer never fully relaxes out again.

Two bags, matched to mat size

• The 95 cm bag fits rubber mats in 22x30", 30x44", 36x36", 36x48" or 36x72", the sizes that cover most standard and skirmish-format battle mats.
• The 125 cm / 50"x2" bag steps up for the longer 44x60" format and similarly large mats, rolled rather than folded.

Both are made of durable Oxford fabric, close with a zipper, and may carry a Playmats logo. They roll into a backpack far more easily than the box the mat shipped in.

Roll, never fold
A mat stored flat or rolled keeps its printed surface smooth indefinitely; a mat folded for storage develops a crease along the fold line that becomes permanent over time, visible as a pale or cracked line across the artwork. Always roll a mat for anything longer than a single session’s break, print side out, and let it sit loosely rather than cinched tight.

A note on the storage tubes
Rigid cardboard storage tubes with end plugs exist in our catalog but are built specifically for latex and vinyl mats, a material we no longer carry in our current rubber-only range; they are not needed for, or matched to, the rubber mats sold today. If you own an older latex or vinyl mat from a previous order, a tube remains the right way to store it.
