The rock here has only just set: black lava folded into ridges, split by thin glowing cracks, and in places a crust so thin that molten orange shows through a web of fissures. Lava Fields lays that ground on natural rubber cut two feet by two (61 by 61 cm) - the size Forbidden Psalm plays on - for fantasy warbands and sci-fi crews alike. On the double-sided version, grass waits underneath.

Key features of the Lava Fields 24" x 24" mat

  • Black rock, glowing veins - rope-like folds and ridges of black lava cover the whole mat, threaded with fine orange cracks; nothing else is printed - no rivers, roads or buildings - so your own scenery sets the layout.
  • Patches of molten crust - several patches glow orange and yellow where the cooling crust has broken into a web of small plates over the heat below - ready-made hazards, objective points or the spot where something gets summoned.
  • Two feet square for six games - Forbidden Psalm is played on exactly this area, Planet 28 suggests it, Space Weirdos sets its 75-point games on it, smaller Five Parsecs from Home battles use it, Stargrave counts it among its table sizes, and Call to Arms has Delves drawn up for a board this small.
  • Grass on the reverse, rubber throughout - green grass covers the other face of the double-sided version, while the single-sided version sits on bare anti-slip rubber. Under the print, either way, are two millimetres of natural rubber with laser-cut edges, and the mat rolls up or folds for the cupboard.

Where the Lava Fields 24" x 24" mat fits

Flame Atronachs for Call to Arms - Modiphius makes three Flame Atronachs - Lesser Daedra summoned from Oblivion and commanded by skilled mages - as 32 mm resin miniatures on scenic bases, with their cards in the Chapter Two pack, Steam and Shadow. Call to Arms usually needs 3' x 3'; this mat is for the Delves that fit in two feet square.

A spellcaster in a Forbidden Psalm warband - one of the five warriors can be swapped for a spellcaster who knows clean and unclean spells, and between scenarios every downed model rolls a Death Test; the game, compatible with Mörk Borg, asks for 60 by 60 cm of table.

The Last Prospector for Stargrave - this supplement is a ten-scenario campaign hunting a mysterious "big find" in an isolated star system; eight of the scenarios can be played in any order, and the crew's standing with six factions shapes what comes later.

Stealth jobs for Five Parsecs from Home crews - the Fixer's Guidebook expansion adds stealth missions - commando-style raids and infiltrations past sentries - plus faction rules, so employers reward a crew that stays loyal.

Planet 28, back in print - a 2026 Kickstarter for a new print run of the second edition, with new expansion content, raised more than nine times its goal.

Half an hour of Space Weirdos - players put a game at about thirty minutes once the warbands are built, so there is time for a rematch on the same mat.

What makes the Lava Fields 24" x 24" mat different

Mars is rust-red dust and craters, Rocky Desert sun-baked earth - dry ground under an open sky. Lava Fields is black rock that has barely cooled, with the heat still showing through its cracks. No Lava Fields takes up less table, and the biggest in the series is 44" x 60".

Frequently asked questions

What about Deadzone (third edition) and Halo: Flashpoint?

Those two need a grid that this mat does not have. Both split a 24" x 24" board into an eight-by-eight grid of 3" cubes and count moves and shots cube by cube, and Halo asks for buildings to sit square on the printed grid. Pick a gridded mat for them.

Does the molten crust count as dangerous ground?

Only if your group says so. The artwork is not tied to any rulebook, so before deployment agree whether the glowing patches are hazardous, difficult or plain ground.

Is there a bigger Lava Fields?

Yes - Lava Fields 36" x 36" gives you the 3' x 3' that Call to Arms usually expects and that Stargrave treats as standard.

FAQ

How long does it take to make and send my order?

Products from our regular offer are usually made and handed to the carrier within up to 10 business days of your order. If your order needs more time, we let you know by email. Orders paid by bank transfer go into production once the payment reaches us.

How long does delivery take?

Courier shipments within Europe arrive within 3 to 5 business days of dispatch. Parcel post can take up to 2 weeks within the European Union and more than a month outside it. Every order gets a tracking link, so you can follow the parcel all the way to your table.

How much does shipping cost?

Free shipping from 200 EUR within the EU and from 400 USD outside the EU. Below these thresholds, delivery costs depend on the destination and parcel weight. The exact price is shown at checkout.

Do you ship outside Europe?

Yes. Besides Europe, we ship by courier to the United States, Canada and Asia. Courier prices outside Europe depend on the destination and the weight of the parcel and are shown in the cart before you pay.

What payment methods can I use?

You can pay online through Stripe or PayPal, which covers credit cards and many popular banking systems, or by bank transfer. Unpaid bank transfer orders are cancelled five business days after they are placed. All prices in the store are gross prices in euro.

Will I get an invoice?

Yes. On request we issue a receipt or a VAT invoice for your order. It goes into the parcel or arrives by email as a PDF file, sent to the address you gave when ordering.

Will the product look exactly like the photos?

Very close, but not always identical. Phones and monitors show colours in RGB, and each screen renders them a little differently depending on brightness and settings. We print in CMYK with our own calibration and match the print to the design as closely as possible.

Is the size exactly as listed?

Almost. Our materials are cut at high temperatures, so the final dimensions of a mat can differ by up to +/- 5 mm from the listed size. On a gaming table this difference has no effect on play, deployment zones or card layouts.

Can I return this product if it is not right for my table?

Yes. You can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason, by sending us the return form. You cover the cost of sending the product back, and we refund your payment, including the original standard delivery cost. Custom products made to your own design cannot be returned this way.

What if my order arrives damaged or I get the wrong product?

File a complaint with your order number, a short description and photos of the problem. You can choose a refund of the price plus delivery or an exchange for a new or correct product, and we cover the shipping both ways. We respond to every complaint within 14 days.

Can I cancel my order before it arrives?

Yes. You can withdraw from the order at any point until you receive it by sending us a statement, for example the return form. This does not shorten your 14-day right to return the product after delivery.
