Historical Battle Mats

Normandy farmland, the Western Desert, a frozen Eastern Front, a town reduced to rubble. Historical wargaming is about recreating places that really existed, and the right mat does half the work before the first unit is deployed.

The size: a full 6'x4' table
The core of the collection is the 72"x48" / 183x122 cm format - the standard table for Bolt Action, Flames of War, Team Yankee and smaller Black Powder battles. Enough room for a full force to manoeuvre, flank and dig in.

Theatres of war

  • Fields and countryside: Fields of War brings overgrown fields with worn paths, Grassland a lifelike open landscape and Universal Grass a detailed natural green. The backdrop for Normandy, Italy or any rural campaign, and for Black Powder battles alike.
  • Desert: Sandy Desert's dunes, Rocky Desert's cracked earth and Red Desert's rust-red ground, for North African campaigns in Bolt Action and Flames of War.
  • Winter: Ice covers the table in icy rock and frozen ground for Bolt Action winter scenarios.
  • Towns under fire: Ruined City's cracked pavements and rubble piles for street fighting in Bolt Action, Flames of War or Team Yankee.

Imagine a Sherman platoon pushing across Fields of War towards a hedgerow while paratroopers hold the crossroads - the mat sets the scene before anyone reads the mission.

Terrain to finish the battlefield
Add our rubber 2D terrain sets to build the rest of the table: trenches, hills, fields, forests, ponds, craters, houses, wooden and stone bridges, and modular rivers. They lie flat on the mat, so models stand steady on top. Saga players will also find a 13-piece tournament 2D terrain set made for their game.

Material that lasts a long campaign
Each mat is a rubber backing with a polyester fabric top and a sublimation print. The rubber grips the table, the soft surface protects painted miniatures and the laser-cut edges do not fray. Roll it up for the club and it lies flat again on the next game night. Some designs, such as Sandy Desert and Ice, also come in 72"x36".

Our mats are compatible with the games named above, but they are not official products of their publishers. Need help choosing a theatre? Contact us and we will help. Browse the historical battle mats below and start your next campaign.
