Aftermatch Plaza 24”x24” / 61x61 cm - mat for wargames

Something went off in the middle of the square: the paving of tiny setts is torn open down to a rusting pipe, debris lies sprayed across the stones and cracks run out through the slabs - only the metal hatch set into the paving is still shut. Aftermatch Plaza brings that square to the table as a 2' x 2' natural rubber mat measuring 61 x 61 cm, for Stargrave, Planet 28, Space Weirdos, MERCS 2.0 and the smaller fights of Five Parsecs from Home. Ordered double-sided, it turns over to a grass field.
Key features of the Aftermatch Plaza 24" x 24" mat
- A crater torn down to the pipes - a wide band of tiny setts runs between kerbs across the plaza, and where it branches the paving is ripped open down to a buried, rusting pipe, with dark debris fanned out over the stones around it.
- Slabs, checkerboard tiles, a hatch - large concrete slabs, a checkerboard of faded red and grey tiles along one side and a rectangular metal access hatch, the whole plaza in a cold blue-grey cast and cracked here and there - set your own buildings and cover on top.
- Two feet square for five games - that is the table Planet 28 recommends and one of the sizes Stargrave lists; Five Parsecs from Home switches to it for some battles, MERCS 2.0 is happy on anything up to 2' x 3', and the smallest Space Weirdos games are played on exactly this size.
- A grass reverse if you want one - the double-sided mat turns over to green grass, while the single-sided one has a grippy anti-slip underside. Both are 2 mm natural rubber with a printed polyester face and laser-cut edges; roll or fold the mat when the game is over.

Where the Aftermatch Plaza 24" x 24" mat fits
A loot marker at the centre in Stargrave - in a standard game the rules put one loot marker in the exact centre of the table, and a roll decides whether it holds data - maps, blueprints, digital currency - or something physical such as cash, goods or artefacts; each marker the crew gets away with is worth 20 XP, and one still lying on the ground never blocks line of sight, gives cover or stops movement.
Five Parsecs from Home, between fights - after every battle a crew member may die of injuries or level up and come away with new items and information, and between battles you send the crew to look for contacts, trade, explore the colony, recruit replacements or train.
Corporate warfare in MERCS 2.0 - the 2.0 rulebook covers all twelve MegaCons; each faction has ten archetypes, and a team takes five of them, no two alike. The game is meant for a confined area, and if you prefer a tape measure to the cards, a movement point equals four inches.
Planet 28, second edition - one hardback now holds the core rules, the Death on the Periphery supplement and the Death Machines vehicle rules, plus rules for making your own weapons and squad rules for larger games; a game usually takes about an hour.
Space Weirdos, one figure at a time - players alternate, activating one weirdo each; an ordinary weirdo can carry up to 20 points of abilities and equipment, and the leader up to 25.
What makes the Aftermatch Plaza 24" x 24" mat different
Ruined City shows a district already in rubble, with scorched paving and heaps of brick; Paved Plaza is an old square of setts laid in fans; Wasteland leaves town along a cracked highway. Aftermatch Plaza is the modern square among our city battle mats - setts between kerbs, concrete slabs, checkerboard tiles and an access hatch in cold blue-grey - intact apart from its cracks and the one spot where a blast has torn it open down to the pipes. In surface area it is the smallest Aftermatch Plaza; the largest measures 44" x 90".
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it for Deadzone (third edition) or Halo: Flashpoint?
Not without a grid - and there is none on this mat. Deadzone and Halo both divide their 24" x 24" battlefield into eight by eight cubes of 3" and count every move and shot in cubes; the Halo rulebook even asks you to line building edges up with the printed grid. For those two, choose a gridded mat - this plaza suits games measured with a tape, sticks or cards.
Is there a bigger Aftermatch Plaza?
Yes - Aftermatch Plaza 36" x 36" takes 125-point Space Weirdos games and the three-foot battles of Five Parsecs from Home.
Do both versions have the grass side?
No - only the double-sided mat carries grass, on its reverse. The single-sided mat is plain anti-slip rubber underneath, so it holds its place on the table.
FAQ
How long does it take to make and send my order?
Products from our regular offer are usually made and handed to the carrier within up to 10 business days of your order. If your order needs more time, we let you know by email. Orders paid by bank transfer go into production once the payment reaches us.
How long does delivery take?
Courier shipments within Europe arrive within 3 to 5 business days of dispatch. Parcel post can take up to 2 weeks within the European Union and more than a month outside it. Every order gets a tracking link, so you can follow the parcel all the way to your table.
How much does shipping cost?
Free shipping from 200 EUR within the EU and from 400 USD outside the EU. Below these thresholds, delivery costs depend on the destination and parcel weight. The exact price is shown at checkout.
Do you ship outside Europe?
Yes. Besides Europe, we ship by courier to the United States, Canada and Asia. Courier prices outside Europe depend on the destination and the weight of the parcel and are shown in the cart before you pay.
What payment methods can I use?
You can pay online through Stripe or PayPal, which covers credit cards and many popular banking systems, or by bank transfer. Unpaid bank transfer orders are cancelled five business days after they are placed. All prices in the store are gross prices in euro.
Will I get an invoice?
Yes. On request we issue a receipt or a VAT invoice for your order. It goes into the parcel or arrives by email as a PDF file, sent to the address you gave when ordering.
Will the product look exactly like the photos?
Very close, but not always identical. Phones and monitors show colours in RGB, and each screen renders them a little differently depending on brightness and settings. We print in CMYK with our own calibration and match the print to the design as closely as possible.
Is the size exactly as listed?
Almost. Our materials are cut at high temperatures, so the final dimensions of a mat can differ by up to +/- 5 mm from the listed size. On a gaming table this difference has no effect on play, deployment zones or card layouts.
Can I return this product if it is not right for my table?
Yes. You can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason, by sending us the return form. You cover the cost of sending the product back, and we refund your payment, including the original standard delivery cost. Custom products made to your own design cannot be returned this way.
What if my order arrives damaged or I get the wrong product?
File a complaint with your order number, a short description and photos of the problem. You can choose a refund of the price plus delivery or an exchange for a new or correct product, and we cover the shipping both ways. We respond to every complaint within 14 days.
Can I cancel my order before it arrives?
Yes. You can withdraw from the order at any point until you receive it by sending us a statement, for example the return form. This does not shorten your 14-day right to return the product after delivery.
