Three days of rain and the field has turned to brown mush: boots sink to the ankle, grey puddles fill every hollow, and only the odd clump of moss gives a firmer step. Muddy Ground lays that churned earth on natural rubber sixty-one centimetres a side - the two-foot table that both Forbidden Psalm and Five Leagues from the Borderlands use. The double-sided version keeps green grass on its back for when the rain finally stops.

Key features of the Muddy Ground 24" x 24" mat

  • Churned mud, grey puddles - brown mud worked into ridges and lumps covers most of the mat, darker where it is wettest, with blue-grey puddles lying in the hollows.
  • Moss, dry clay and a few stones - clumps of bright green moss and grass, pale patches of drier clay and a handful of pebbles break up the mud; the print stops at the ground itself - no roads, walls or trees - so the scenery is up to you.
  • Two feet square, two games - Forbidden Psalm's scenarios fit two feet by two, and the Five Leagues from the Borderlands rulebook says to use a table 2 x 2 feet - exactly what this mat covers.
  • Fair weather on the flip side - turn over the double-sided version once the weather clears and play on green grass; the single-sided version has anti-slip rubber below, so it stays where you laid it when the dice start rolling. Either way the mat is 2 mm natural rubber printed on polyester and cut by laser, so it wipes clean after a muddy game and goes in the bag rolled or folded.

Where the Muddy Ground 24" x 24" mat fits

Mud as Difficult ground in Five Leagues - the rules let you mark field features such as mud or water as Difficult or Impassable, and in Difficult terrain every inch moved costs two inches of movement; the Paths in the Wilderness expansion adds optional weather rules on top.

Four heroes and their followers - a typical Five Leagues warband is four Heroes and two Followers, six figures in all (seven or eight if you prefer), and each Luck point a hero holds can spare them one grim result when post-game injuries are rolled.

Setting up a Forbidden Psalm fight - each warrior may put down an obstacle, then a d6 is rolled, and if the roll plus the obstacles already placed comes to less than 9, more pieces can go on; after that, tests are rolled on a d20 plus a stat, where a 1 is a fumble and a 20 a critical.

Spoils from the Dying World - a slain monster's organs can be cut out and sold, but only by a warrior who passes a Presence test - fail it and the stomach turns, forcing a Morale test instead. Every coin counts, since the whole warband starts on one shared budget of fifty gold.

What makes the Muddy Ground 24" x 24" mat different

Swamp is a bog of stagnant pools, stumps and fallen branches, Early Spring is melting snow over mud, and Undergrowth a mossy forest floor. Muddy Ground is plain churned earth after rain - puddles, moss clumps and dry clay, nothing more - so it serves as a field, a village edge or ground two armies have already crossed. You will not find a smaller Muddy Ground mat; the biggest in the range measures 72" x 48".

Frequently asked questions

Are the puddles water in the rules?

Only if you say so - no rule is printed into the art. In Five Leagues you choose which field features count as Difficult or Impassable, and in Forbidden Psalm the scenario and the terrain you place set the obstacles, so settle it before the first turn.

Does Five Leagues need a bigger table?

Not necessarily - the rulebook sets up its starter scenario on 2 x 2 feet, while Modiphius says the game also plays on 3 x 3 feet. If your group prefers the larger option, Muddy Ground 36" x 36" covers 3' x 3'.

What is on each face of the double-sided mat?

The muddy field on one face and green grass with sandy patches on the other. A single-sided mat carries only the mud, with anti-slip rubber below.

FAQ

How long does it take to make and send my order?

Products from our regular offer are usually made and handed to the carrier within up to 10 business days of your order. If your order needs more time, we let you know by email. Orders paid by bank transfer go into production once the payment reaches us.

How long does delivery take?

Courier shipments within Europe arrive within 3 to 5 business days of dispatch. Parcel post can take up to 2 weeks within the European Union and more than a month outside it. Every order gets a tracking link, so you can follow the parcel all the way to your table.

How much does shipping cost?

Free shipping from 200 EUR within the EU and from 400 USD outside the EU. Below these thresholds, delivery costs depend on the destination and parcel weight. The exact price is shown at checkout.

Do you ship outside Europe?

Yes. Besides Europe, we ship by courier to the United States, Canada and Asia. Courier prices outside Europe depend on the destination and the weight of the parcel and are shown in the cart before you pay.

What payment methods can I use?

You can pay online through Stripe or PayPal, which covers credit cards and many popular banking systems, or by bank transfer. Unpaid bank transfer orders are cancelled five business days after they are placed. All prices in the store are gross prices in euro.

Will I get an invoice?

Yes. On request we issue a receipt or a VAT invoice for your order. It goes into the parcel or arrives by email as a PDF file, sent to the address you gave when ordering.

Will the product look exactly like the photos?

Very close, but not always identical. Phones and monitors show colours in RGB, and each screen renders them a little differently depending on brightness and settings. We print in CMYK with our own calibration and match the print to the design as closely as possible.

Is the size exactly as listed?

Almost. Our materials are cut at high temperatures, so the final dimensions of a mat can differ by up to +/- 5 mm from the listed size. On a gaming table this difference has no effect on play, deployment zones or card layouts.

Can I return this product if it is not right for my table?

Yes. You can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason, by sending us the return form. You cover the cost of sending the product back, and we refund your payment, including the original standard delivery cost. Custom products made to your own design cannot be returned this way.

What if my order arrives damaged or I get the wrong product?

File a complaint with your order number, a short description and photos of the problem. You can choose a refund of the price plus delivery or an exchange for a new or correct product, and we cover the shipping both ways. We respond to every complaint within 14 days.

Can I cancel my order before it arrives?

Yes. You can withdraw from the order at any point until you receive it by sending us a statement, for example the return form. This does not shorten your 14-day right to return the product after delivery.
