The ground has dried into hard plates and split along every seam, grit crunches under every boot, and a lone boulder is the only shade for a hundred paces. Rocky Desert lays that baked, cracked earth on natural rubber, 61 x 61 cm (24" x 24") - big enough for Five Parsecs from Home at 2' x 2' and for a small game of Stargrave. Buy it double-sided and green grass waits underneath.

Key features of the Rocky Desert 24" x 24" mat

  • Earth baked into plates - sand-beige and ochre ground split by dark cracks into irregular plates across wide bands, with rougher, gritty stretches between them, a few rusty patches and the odd stone or cluster of broken rock.
  • Two feet across, two games - a Five Parsecs from Home battle is set on 3' x 3' or on 2' x 2', while the Stargrave rulebook suggests corner deployment when the table is very small - about 60 x 60 cm.
  • A second world on the back - the reverse of the double-sided mat is a green field, ready for a gentler world; a single-sided mat holds the tabletop with its anti-slip rubber underside.
  • Polyester face, rubber body - 2 mm of natural rubber under the print, edges cut by laser; grit and dust brush off, a damp cloth does the rest, and the whole thing rolls or folds into a bag.

Where the Rocky Desert 24" x 24" mat fits

Five Parsecs jobs in the badlands - Ivan Sorensen's solo game generates every battle from tables - enemies from more than 50 types, weapons, battlefield circumstances and objectives - and lets you pick one of five difficulty settings or take on the super-hard Black Zone and Red Zone jobs; besides figures and terrain you only need some six-sided and ten-sided dice.

Stargrave captains and their powers - a captain comes from one of eight backgrounds - Biomorph, Cyborg, Mystic, Psion, Roboticist, Rogue, Techno or Veteran - and starts with five powers, while the first mate begins with four.

Rock spires and falls - stand mesas or rock spires on the mat and Stargrave's height rules come into play: a figure can jump up to 4" across after a straight run-up of the same length, and a fall of more than 3" deals damage equal to 1.5 times the inches fallen, rounded down.

What makes the Rocky Desert 24" x 24" mat different

Among our desert battle mats, Rocky Desert is the dried-out, sand-coloured one: Sandy Desert keeps smooth, rippled sand, Red Desert is cracked too but orange-red, Wasteland runs a broken highway past blast craters, and Mars shows a whole planet from orbit. Measured by area, no Rocky Desert mat we make is smaller, and the range tops out at 72" x 48".

Frequently asked questions

Can the cracked patches count as difficult ground?

If your group agrees, yes - mark them before the first turn. In Stargrave, difficult ground costs 2" of movement for every 1" moved, so a cracked band between the crews becomes a real obstacle; otherwise the print is flat and only your terrain counts.

Will 2' x 2' do for a full Stargrave game?

For a quick one, yes - the rulebook covers tables of about 60 x 60 cm. The standard Stargrave table is 3' x 3', which the Rocky Desert 36" x 36" covers.

Is the reverse desert too?

No - flip a double-sided mat and the battle moves onto green grass, so one mat serves a dry world and a green one. The single-sided mat leaves the underside as bare, anti-slip rubber.

FAQ

How long does it take to make and send my order?

Products from our regular offer are usually made and handed to the carrier within up to 10 business days of your order. If your order needs more time, we let you know by email. Orders paid by bank transfer go into production once the payment reaches us.

How long does delivery take?

Courier shipments within Europe arrive within 3 to 5 business days of dispatch. Parcel post can take up to 2 weeks within the European Union and more than a month outside it. Every order gets a tracking link, so you can follow the parcel all the way to your table.

How much does shipping cost?

Free shipping from 200 EUR within the EU and from 400 USD outside the EU. Below these thresholds, delivery costs depend on the destination and parcel weight. The exact price is shown at checkout.

Do you ship outside Europe?

Yes. Besides Europe, we ship by courier to the United States, Canada and Asia. Courier prices outside Europe depend on the destination and the weight of the parcel and are shown in the cart before you pay.

What payment methods can I use?

You can pay online through Stripe or PayPal, which covers credit cards and many popular banking systems, or by bank transfer. Unpaid bank transfer orders are cancelled five business days after they are placed. All prices in the store are gross prices in euro.

Will I get an invoice?

Yes. On request we issue a receipt or a VAT invoice for your order. It goes into the parcel or arrives by email as a PDF file, sent to the address you gave when ordering.

Will the product look exactly like the photos?

Very close, but not always identical. Phones and monitors show colours in RGB, and each screen renders them a little differently depending on brightness and settings. We print in CMYK with our own calibration and match the print to the design as closely as possible.

Is the size exactly as listed?

Almost. Our materials are cut at high temperatures, so the final dimensions of a mat can differ by up to +/- 5 mm from the listed size. On a gaming table this difference has no effect on play, deployment zones or card layouts.

Can I return this product if it is not right for my table?

Yes. You can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason, by sending us the return form. You cover the cost of sending the product back, and we refund your payment, including the original standard delivery cost. Custom products made to your own design cannot be returned this way.

What if my order arrives damaged or I get the wrong product?

File a complaint with your order number, a short description and photos of the problem. You can choose a refund of the price plus delivery or an exchange for a new or correct product, and we cover the shipping both ways. We respond to every complaint within 14 days.

Can I cancel my order before it arrives?

Yes. You can withdraw from the order at any point until you receive it by sending us a statement, for example the return form. This does not shorten your 14-day right to return the product after delivery.
